Teachers Wanted
Nansindlela School
Nansindlela School is
always on the look out for suitably qualified staff who feel they can make
a valuable contribution to the lives of our learners and the community of
Ingwavuma. Teachers come to Nansindlela for varying amounts of time
but we try to encourage teachers to stay at leat a year. Our posts generally
become availbale at the end of the year.

Nansindlela School is
a unique school within the context of rural education in South
Africa. We at
Nansindlela see ourselves as a bridge spanning the massive divide between the
world class education experienced by those of the previously advantaged
communities and the appalling Bantu Education that the people of Ingwavuma (and
most other rural communities) had and still have to endure. We see the critical
issue for education as being the quality and skills of the educator. Many of our
local educators have only experienced the ‘Bantu Education’ system themselves.
It is to their credit that they managed to achieve the results that enabled
them to pursue teaching as a career. Nevertheless many of them obtained their
teaching diplomas via correspondence courses or inferior local institutions and
have therefore never experienced teaching as it can and should be practised. We
therefore believe that bringing external teachers to Ingwavuma that have grown
up and trained within excellent training institutions can add significant value
to the skills base amongst local teachers.
We are
therefore looking for people who are not only excellent educators themselves
but also have the ability and passionate motivation to develop fellow educators
both at Nansindlela and in the surrounding schools. We do not see ourselves as
an ‘Ivory Tower’ in the bush. We are looking to set up bi-monthly workshops at
Nansindlela where teachers in other local schools can come and receive supplementary
training.
Location
Ingwavuma,
Kwazulu-Natal is perched on top of the Lebombo mountain range; an escarpment
that overlooks the Maputaland Flats all the way to Kosi Bay on the east coast,
the rolling hills and farmlands of Swaziland to the west, and Mozambique to the
north. The views are simply stunning! Access to Ingwavuma is via tar roads from
the N2 near Mkhuze and is a 3 hour drive from Empangeni and 5 hours from Durban.
Climate
Apart
from enjoying the wonderful scenery, the climate is most amenable – not too hot
in summer and not too cold in winter. Malaria is not a significant concern in
Ingwavuma.
Lifestyle
and Recreation
The
lifestyle offered is well suited to those who love nature and the outdoors.
Easy and affordable day trips include: Ndumo Game Reserve and Tembe Elephant Park;
Kosi Mouth and Lakes, Ponto D’Oro in Mozambique, The Coastal Forest Reserve
with its miles and miles of unspoilt coastline, Pongolapoort Dam (SA’s only dam
stocked with the world-renowned Tiger Fish) and Nature Reserve, as well as
various excursions into Swaziland.
The
Ingwavuma social life offers the opportunity to meet a diverse group of
professional people associated with the school and hospital who come from many
different parts of the country as well as from overseas. The local community is
also most welcoming and friendly. A fellowship group meets weekly in the
hospital compound offering worship, bible study, fellowship and prayer. Most
mainstream denominations are also represented in the community.
Amenities
Local
Amenities include a post office, police station, hospital and Spar Supatrade;
a supermarket offering most of your food requirements. Everyone uses Spar
for day to day provisions and stock up periodically on more durable and
luxury items in Empangeni or Durban. Fresh fruit and vegetables are occasionally available and
the bakery and butchery are excellent for both quality and affordability.
Package
Nansindlela
aims to match the packages offered by the Department of Education to its
Governing Body Posts. We do also provide accommodation to non-local teachers in
various shapes and sizes and do have the potential to house family units.
